Wake Forest University was founded in 1834 as Wake Forest College. Although the college had it's beginnings in Wake Forest, NC by the Baptist State Convention of North Carolina, it was moved to Winston-Salem in 1956 to a 320 acre campus site generously provided by Charles H. and Mary Reynolds Babcock. The name was changed in 1967 to Wake Forest University. It's motto is, as it has been throughout it's history, Pro Humanitate.
